What it takes to qualify
- Services from a Regional CenterFrom any Regional Center. We already work with NLACRC, which covers the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita and the Antelope Valley. We also work with Westside Regional Center, which covers the Westside, and ELARC, which covers East LA. With a different center? We can start working with yours.
- Age 3 or olderKids, teens and adults. There’s no upper age limit.
It’s funded by your Regional Center. Families pay nothing out of pocket.
There’s no waitlist, and sessions can be on evenings and weekends.

Not with a Regional Center yet? Here’s who qualifies
Regional Centers help people with a developmental disability. To qualify, it has to:
- Start before age 18, and be expected to last.
- Be autism, an intellectual disability, cerebral palsy or epilepsy, or a condition that needs the same kind of help as an intellectual disability.
- Make daily life much harder in at least three areas, like self-care, language, learning or getting around.
Kids who are 3 or 4 can qualify before they have a diagnosis. The assessment is free.

Will your child get along with the professional?
- We start with what your child loves, then pick a professional whose personality fits.
- They’ll have years of experience with kids like yours, and a record of real progress.
- Your child sees the same person every time. If it ever isn’t working, we’ll find a better match.
Every professional on our team holds a master’s degree, with 9.3 years of experience on average.
Questions about qualifying
My child doesn’t have a diagnosis yet. Can we still apply?
Yes. You can apply without one, and the Regional Center’s assessment is free. Kids who are 3 or 4 can qualify before they have a diagnosis.
Is there an age limit?
No upper limit. Anyone 3 or older can work with us, including adults.
How do I know if we’re already Regional Center clients?
If you have a service coordinator at a Regional Center, you are. To find them, search your email for your center’s address, like @nlacrc.org, @westsiderc.org or @elarc.org.
Can sessions fit around school and work?
Yes. Evening and weekend sessions are available, so you can pick times that work for your family.
Will my child get along with the person who comes?
That’s what the match is for. We look at what your child loves and how they like to learn, then choose someone who has helped kids like yours make progress. If it ever isn’t working, we’ll find someone who’s a better fit.
We already get IHSS and respite. Will adding this change them?
No. Adding this won’t make either one smaller. What the Regional Center does for you can’t be used to cut IHSS. That’s a state rule.
How long does it take to become a Regional Center client?
It can take up to 120 days after you apply. Once you have a service coordinator, there’s no waitlist to start with us.
